I don't remember any names, actually I do not listen to any specific bands, I just like listening to anime openings (which are considered j-music if I am right) a lot.

I absolutely love BoA Kwon and Do As Infinity, largely because of Inuyasha. Haven't really listened to any J-Music outside if these two, though.

There are some REALLY good singular songs (namely anime openings/closings). As Jrawls pointed out above me, I loved InuYasha's songs.

That said, I hate Japanese bands overall. J-rock is terrible. The only amazing Japanese band is Sigh. Thousand Leaves is also pretty good. Notice how these artists don't use terrible attempts at English with really bad clean vocals, and one wouldn't actually notice they're from Japan otherwise.

Edit: Also...

They're okay and I kind of like them. I don't listen to them that frequently though.
I mostly got them from watching animes(You know, the openings and endings).

Edit: Oh, and sorry for bumping btw. I just felt like I need to post this.

I like the occasional " Anime music " song here and there, but there are quite a few great Japanese artists that don't play " Anime music "

As Zadion pointed out, Sigh is an amazing band and one of the most respected in the black metal community, especially seeing how they were one of the few signed to Deathlike Silence Records.

Another great band with Melt Banana. Their vocals may be a turn off to a lot of people since she sounds like a chipmunk but the music as a whole is AMAZING. Check out this song: Candy Gun

Another great band from Japan is Kikagaku Moyo which released in my opinion one of the best Prog songs in decades recently in Smoke And Mirrors

I'm also a fan of X Japan.

Oh my gosh, this is crazy. xD I don't hate it, but I can't say I like it either.

Oh man, are these guys the Japanese version of Yes? This is really cool, though. I'll probably be checking out the album.

I've been listening to Galneryus a good bit lately, which I recommend to anybody with any inclination towards power metal, regardless of their inclination towards Japanese music. Check out "Temptation Through the Night." These guys are a prime violator of the "terrible attempts at English thing I mentioned above. Like, the lyrics to "Lonely as a Stranger":

"I will take good aim at the target, it is you
Give myself up to pleasure, I don't rue
I wander about in search of new game at tonight, it's you
Give yourself up to pleasure, you don't rue

Buy time! I can drive a hard bargain
Let's talk about suffering and love, don't say "Bye"
Come out! What beautiful eyes you have! It's a sin
Don't look down I don't tell a lie"

God help me. God help me.

They're great as long as you can ignore the terrible lyrics, though. Most good Japanese bands won't be found exclusively listening to anime openings/endings.
