Messi is a great player, does he deserve the world player award NO. There are mainly is being popular and having overall good rating in every game. Messi did both of those things but moslt being popular is the reason you win the world player award.

I'm from Spain and everyone here is complaining about the decision.
In my opinion the truth is that Messi did nothing with Argentina, he just played well in Barcelona during the last year whereas 'Iniesta' and 'Xavi' not only played well in Barcelona but with my country, Spain.
Do u know how many time are we wishing to win a world cup?
Being popular is the main reason you win the world player award.
No doubt.

Messi is the best :/
Quit ya bitching, he did the best he could during the World Cup, considering the team and the coach.
When a striker has to come down to midfield to pick up the ball, then carry it all the way up you know there is a problem with the team.

Messi is the best only when he plays together with Xavi and Iniesta. He needs them to be the best player in the world.
Cristiano Ronaldo isn't so dependent, Xavi and Iniesta play well with Messi and without Messi, in their club or with Spain.
It's clear enough I think.

I believe it's not right to compare people who play different kinds of football. I'd go for Xavi though.

The point is, FIFA said that the World cup would weigh heavy, if FIFA did not say that, then Messi is the rightfull winner.
But since FIFA said World cup weighs heavy, then IMO Xavi shouldve been the winner.
Xavi IS the engine of both Spain and Barca, he's their driving engine, he decides the pace.
Iniesta was too much injured, so only reason he is in the top 3 is because he scored the winning goal.
But as I said, if FIFA said, just overall preformance of 2010 then winner is Messi

But FIFA don't decide it: the votes comes from trainers (selections), captains (selectionts) and journalist, so.... Why FIFA is the enemy?

injured or not, Iniesta was the best player in the final before he scored the goal for my country. Xabi (not Xavi) is the one too much injured for the karate kick in his chest but we here have guts and finally win against all that brutallity.Iniesta was too much injured, so only reason he is in the top 3 is because he scored the winning goal.
No, in overall performance Xavi and Iniesta played well with Barça and Spain, Messi just with Barça, he didn't even scored a single goal in ALL the World Cup for god sake. But as I said, if FIFA said, just overall preformance of 2010 then winner is Messi
Without Xavi and Iniesta, Messi becomes a common football player

Sorry sir, it's XAVI; I'm catalan like him and I know how his name is writted. Xabi is Xabi Alonso, but the best is Xavi Hernández...
And yes, Iniesta scores an important goal, but I think that it's more important the year than a goal.
